Does the directness of the counselor differ if the client is displaying cultural issues verses behavioral issues?
The directness of the counselor needs to be modulated and regulated according to the various cultures that he/she encounters. This is an imperative as cultures differ in terms of their perception towards the direct approach that counselors resort to obtain answers from their respective clients.
For example native Americans are known to find the direct approach quite an invading tactic, and Asian Americans are found to have taken this tactic as rude. Hence they need to be tackled quite carefully if the client tends to be displaying cultural issues verses behavioral issues.
