Do you think individuals should be allowed to “design” a child? Does your opinion differ if the potential parents are “designing” a child in order to avoid genetic and heredity disorders that run in their family? Genetic modifications or designing a child has always been a controversial topic. Gene editing has made quite advancements over the last decade. These genetic methods allow the flawed DNA fragments to be replaced with the newly modified DNA. this approach has helped the scientists to cure various serious ailments like hiv, leukemia, hemophilia etc.

However, this has always been a topic of debate for the scientists for its ethical and legal acceptance.

Some of the points regarding its pros and cons can be enlisted as below:

* Chnage in human genome may pose a serious threat to mankind.

* Genetic alterations can make an unpredictable impact on future generations.

* Apart from serious disease or ailments It may also be used for some cosmetic reasons such as changing the eye or skin color of the baby.

So there are three main objections to the topic : religious, philosophical, and pragmatic. The arguments rests that alterations in genetic pool is unnatural , unethical , and is equal to competing with God.

Therefore, altering human genome requires further comprehensive study and deliberation.
