An experiment is carried out in which the 3’-AAUCCC-5’ RNA template of TR on the telomerase is mutated.
1. Will there be a change in the telomeres sequence as a result of this mutation? State yes or no and why or why not

2. What are the consequence of this hTR change on the proteins that bind the telomere?

Answer #1

1. Yes, as a result of this mutation there will be a change in the telomeres sequence becouse the resulting telomer will have the complementary sequence to the mutated sequence of the TR template and it established the mechanism of telomerase enzyme and varified the role of the RNA template in the extending chromosome length.

2. Mutation in the template region of hTR lead to incorporation of mutant telomerase repeats by telomerase in telomerase positive cell. There is a turn disruption between the telomerase and specific telomerase binding protein, causing encapping of telomerase. It causes enzyme inhibition to produse significant effect.
