Answer #1

Suicide is found to be more prevalent among police. There can be many reasons for this. One major reason is the burnouts that they experience. Burnout occurs when people are exposed to prolonged stress and it is more likely to happen more in people who are into helping professions. It is well known fact that the policemen experience stress on a daily basis. Not being able to cope up with this stress effectively would cause a burnout. If burnouts are not treated on time, people experiencing them can also become suicidal. Additionally, the kind of work they are involved in requires handling a lot of stuff. They may feel pressurised and overwhelmed with the nature of their work and the responsibilities that they have to fulfill. Furthermore, policemen experience traumatic events on a daily basis. They see dead bodies, traffic accidents, cases of violence and what not. Constant exposure to such situations can make them more prone to depression and they may end up being suicidal.
