Do analogous genes share the same genetic sequences and proteins. I understand that analogous genes display the same function but come from different origins, but does this make the genes the same? If two different lineage use the same gene to form the same structure, does this mean that the gene must have come from a shared ancestor of the two, or is it possible the same gene evolved two separate times in two separate lineages.
Analogous gene are those which have same or similar function , but they do not have a common anscestory. This means that their like sequences and their functions have developed and evolved independently from each other.
The genes may share very similar sequence , performing same function. Although they are not same genes as they are derived from different parent sequences and share nothing in common ain past.
This is because the genes evolved independly to natural selection at genic level and much mutations also. They required a similar enzyme need for the function.
