1.Psychological make up of the person does affect the
prevelance and the increase in adverse effects of cancer and heart
diseases.People suffering from stress and having negative attitudes
can contribute to escalation of such diseases.Attitudes and
behavior can make a disease or symptoms worse, sometimes resulting
in hospitalization or a visit to an emergency department. For
example, severe stress can temporarily weaken the heart, or chronic
work-related stress can increase the risk of high blood pressure.
The risk of suffering, death, or disability due to the disease can
be increased.
People suffering from depression also influences the symptoms
of such diseases.Suppression of emotions, may arise from the
biologic effects of the cancer itself or from the patient's
knowledge that he or she had the disease.
2.Tobacco remains the leading preventable cause of death in US
and in the world. Tobacco use is a major factor in four out of the
five leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung disease
and stroke. It causes about a third of heart disease and cancer,
and most emphysema. Getting the last 20% of Americans who still
smoke to quit will make a huge difference in the length and quality
of their lives.
Americans suffer 2 million heart attacks and strokes each year,
which cause one in every three deaths and add more than $300
billion to the annual health care bill.
