Biosocial theory is a theory in behavioural and social science describing personality and mental disorders as biologically-determined personality traits reacting to environmental stimuli.
Biosocial theory of Borderline personality disorder- It is characterized by emotional instability, self harm behaviour and impulsivity. According to this theory, this disorder is a result of biological predispositions which manifest itself when in contact with dysfunctional environment. Example- Impulsivity is inherited. If brought up in empathetic home, impulsive behavior can be controlled. On the contrary, if raised in emotional abuse environment, borderline personality disorder can be developed later in life.
