- It is specialized medical care for people with serious illness.
- Palliative care focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness and thus improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.

Example-Mrs J is diagnosed with breast cancer and is recommended to start chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
- Mrs J knows that chemotherapy can make her feel horrible and radiation can be painful.
- She is referred to a palliative care program for symptom management relief and management.
