What are COP concepts? Develop a COP response to crime scenarios? Identify COP performance measures?
COP concepts may be defined as a series of consulting projects which involves planning, launching & high performance communities of practice( COP) Mainly it concerns how well one understands the concept of" shared values"in the initial planning & launch of COP's but also sustaining the COP's. Here with an illustration we can understand the concept of "shared values"
COP concept in crime : Police are paid protectors who enforce the law through legal use of force . Police helps the public for their safety & social order . THEIR MOTTO IS TO PROTECT &SERVE.
Police is responsible for investigations as well as detective duties, detectives usually wear business attire as uniform distractor . In some cases require police to work undercover, where the identity of being a police officer is hidden in order to investigate crimes unsolved by other means. An undercover police officer is not legally required to admit that they are a police officer under any circumstances, as it would defeat the purpose of going undercover in the first place.
Similarities with espionage can be found with police detective work. Detectives tend to investigate a crime after it has occurred, where patrol officers have already responded. Which may involving weeks or months for completion of their investigation, detectives spend most of their time in interviews &courtrooms.
Many law enforcement organizations have a specialized preventive & detective groups to deal with certain crimes or for situations that require certain skills, such as explosive device disposal ( bomb disposal squads). Many jurisdictions have specially trained quasi-military units armed with military-grade weapons for the purposes of dealing with violent situations are beyond the capability of a patrol officers response. These units are known as S.W.A.T (Special Weapons and Tactics) Modern police forces use radio communication as the primary source of communicating to coordinate their work, share information and get help quickly. Flashlights/torches, whistles and police ticket books are common police equipment. they posses
Identifying COP performance measures : Gauging performance on task provides valuable information that individuals & groups can use . It is difficult to improve performance &functioning if accurate& relevant information about performance is not available. In both cases the individuals require information about their performance on selected tasks in order to improve. The potential of effective performance measurement systems has not been realized in police departments.
The performance measurement process holds the potential to affect police behavior. A performance measurement system sends subtle messages to employees & external audiences about what the organization values. By measuring certain aspects of police work a department sends messages about what it values most. This can motivate personnel to concentrate their efforts on what is being measured & possibly overlook other aspects of their work. This idea is reflected in the phrase “what gets measured gets done.”
In the United Nations, policing plays a very important role as international communities seek to develop the rule of law and reform security institutions in nations recovering from conflicts & wars
