Do you think that some of the current issues of white supremacy stem from the poor way that slavery is taught in schools?

Answer #1

It is human tendency to avoid harsh realities or the bitter truths. Slavery is like the Achilles's heel in the history of the U.S. It is important that this concept should be taught with sensibleness because it is sensitive to both the white students and the black students. The faulty way of teaching this hard history makes the white students to defend it, as they feel they are been blamed for it, and on the other hand it gives sense of inferiority among the black students and cruelly treated when they learn about the slavery and relate to it.

The text books and sources do not have enough materials about the reality of this concept. Slavery is mostly taught as a problem of Southern states. It is not taught as a concept that shaped the history of the United States. This hard history should be taught with responsibility and effectively, so that students develop a sense of tolerance for each others, and the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
