Answer #1

There are umpteen number of fads and fashions doing the rounds at all times. It is called a fad because it is not permanent. Back when I was in elementary school, the fashion of crop tops with fitted jeans and skirts was a big thing. However, it has faded with time, and it is cold shoulder tops and maxis that are trending lately. Fashion keeps changing. But when a certain thing is trending, it is all over the place and every person follows it until it fades away.

Fashion fads are indeed a form of collective behaviour. Everybody wants to wear whatever is considered to be 'in'. It slowly fades away because people then begin to shift their interest to something which is new in the market and that everybody is wearing. Fashion or style statement is mostly copied from superstars as we consider them to be fashion gurus.
