3) How have you experienced the need to belong and how has it motivated your behavioral response in a particular social situation (e.g. "ostracism")?
The need to belong has been one of the most important aspects of social relationships. Humans are social animals and function best only in the presence of a larger group and society. Thus, in order to blend ink there are a number of actions that people might be carrying out. These vary from changing the way a person dresses to changing their perspectives for a particular political group or changing habits such as consumption of alcohol. The ability to fit in within a group, has also been explained by Darwin, in the form of survival of the fittest. This expa,is that humans adapt and evolve so that they could adjust in the environment that had been provided to them, both physical and emotional environment, such that they could survive and function in optimal forms.
Hence, in order to fit in, or form a part of an in group, people mould heir habits. This forms a type of extrinsic motivation, where people are appreciated for their habits and praised, resulting them to perform the same actions again and again, eventually getting better at them.
In fact, people who do not get the feeling of belonging, tend to feel isolated and ostracised. They are made to feel an outcast and the society does not take any leniency in doing so. The society might be constantly hammering a person and making them feel out, so that they tend to feel that they are wrong, eventually pushing a person into depression and mood disorders or substance abuse. Or, the person may be moulded to adopt the group behaviors.
