Labelling theory talks about how people identify themselves and behave in a particular manner in accordance to how others label them. labelling is associated with the sociology of crime. Sociology states that labelling an individual may lead to the formation of an alternate personality within their subconscious mind and depiction of the same kind of behaviour in the society. Examples of labelling theory being connected to deviance can be when a bully in school is labelled as an individual who can’t have a future, these individuals start to stop attempting to achieve higher goals in life and continue their behaviour of bullying.
