Why do we want the retention factor in gas chromatography to be no greater than 10
The retention factor is a variable indicating how much time a component spends in the stationary phase compared to a non-retained inert component. So if retention factor is greater than 10 then component spend 10 times more time in stationary phase than mobile phase and chromatography tests are slow and erroneous .
