Answer #1

Nonverbal communication is using gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, posture etc while communicating with the other party. They are greatly useful in business negotiations. A message can be more impactful when nonverbal clues are very effective. It is very important to establish direct eye contact when speaking to others. This shows that you are attentive and interested in what they are speaking. Even while giving presentations, it is useful to maintain eye contact with the audience. It shows that you are confident and know well about what you are speaking. But care should be taken not to stare into their eyes as doing so will make the other person uncomfortable. Maintaining a good smile will make the other person comfortable and indicate them that you are happy to speak with them. Observing other person's facial expressions can indicate a lot about their thoughts. Understanding the other person's facial expressions can go a long way in making successful business negotiations. Proximity should also be taken care of while communicating with people from other cultures. This is because being close while speaking is not consideres as a good habit in some cultures. Maintaining comfortable posture is also very important. Keeping the back straight is better than slouching. Fidgeting may indicate the other person that you are uncomfortable or not confident about the communication. Similarly shaking legs, not maintaining proper eye contact, looking at watch etc may indicate the other person that you are bored with the communication. Gestures like using hands to explain something may indicate that you are more confident. Similarly subtly copying the other person's body language and nodding head sligthly may give more positive results out of the communication. In addition, effective usage of your tone of voice can produce wonderful results in business communication.
