The importance of positive messaging is to be able to influence your desired audience in a positive or persuasive way that does not come off as too forceful. Readers will decide how they feel about your message based on your tone and attitude. Another factor is how they feel about you as an author and whether you are too biased or not. If you are writing about current controversial events, your audience will have a strong feedback as well. "How well they know you and how well the economy is doing, even what has been on the news recently will all influence the way they respond to your message." (Locker, 2014). You can convey positive messages about yourself in professional communications by avoiding negative words or connotations. An example is instead of saying, "Please be patient", you can provide your directed audience a list of contact methods they can reach you at if they have any questions. A tactic I could use to improve positive messaging would be to avoid hidden negatives.

The artifact I chose was the Back to School Video. The purpose of the video was to appear as a normal back to school video that shows the necessities a child needs. This can easily attract the attention of a student or parent. Throughout the video, young students are describing their new school supplies and as more and more students describe them, they start to get more violent and use those supplies as a way as protection. This makes the audience question what is really going on in this video and why these kids are acting strange. Towards the end, it starts to get emotional and reveals that there was an active shooter in the school. In todays age, there has been many frequent shootings in public schools. Unfortunately, it has taken the lives of many children. The video is trying to convey the message that whenever you see strange behavior in children, it is best to report it so that a shooting can be prevented.

Someone may object to how straightforward the message is and how it may trigger some people. Also, how it may be too detailed to be aired on national television where young children may view it and be afraid to go back to school.
