Personal, social, economic, and environmental factors that influence health status are known as determinants of health.There are several broad categories under which the determinants of health fall , they are-
Policymaking- Policies at several state or local level affect individual and health of the population.Increase tax on the harmful substance and a reduce tax on the healthier option can cause a lot of change in the society and can also cater to the health of people.An increase tax on tobacco can reduce its consumption which will help people live a better life , when the tobacco will be expensive it will be consumed less .
Social Factors-Social determinant of health reflect the social factor of health.Social factor determines the environ ment in which a person is born, lives and works.Factors like -
Availability of resources to meet daily needs, such as educational and job opportunities,wages, or foods are crucial factors as when a person earns a good amount of money then only he can afford to buy food for his household , food is the basic necessity of life , healthy living will help people to live a good life.
Social norms and attitudes towards people is also a factor as there is a lot of descrimination amongst the peope today, one can leade a helthy life when he has no mental pressure of an kind of cast or there no descrimination amoungst the peopkle who live with them.
Crime and violence- The satate of crime and voilance in a place also determines the health of a person as if there is a lot of unrest in the society people will not be able to klive a peaceful life their mind will not be at peace.
Education-Education always plays a role in the society . Educated people can only understande the living standards.Education helps people open up there minds to the changes in life for there better,for example the importance of vaccnitation against a disease can only be understood by a person who understand the impostance of the vaccine and the fatelness of the disease.
Income is another very important factor, if there is very low income in the society or the wages are low there will be less money for the people to spend on their healt.The daily required needs of the body will not be fulfilled if the food a person eats. There will be less allocation of money to his/her welfare in terms of his health.The body need proper nutrients and hygein to be healthy, one can only focus on these aspects if they have the right amoun t of money to spend on themselves and not be just concerned to sustain themselves.
