* Leadership is the action of leading.

There are different areas where nurse function as a leader-

** The educational preparation needed for leadership is Bachelor in Nursing for a TEAM LEADER, HEAD NURSE, and SUPERVISORY NURSE in clinical areas.

** POST GRADUATION in Nursing for NURSE ADMINISTRATOR, PRINCIPAL for College of Nursing, DEAN etc

* There are different areas where in Formal role a nurse is in a position of leadership.

a) In a clinical setting a nurse act as a team leader for direct patient care, where she work with a number of other nurses under her and she guides, manage, delegate, and make decisions for direct care for patients assigned.

* Nurse has a leadership role in the interdisciplinary team for direct patient care, where other health care professionals are included- the nurse co-ordinates, communicates and involves in decision making with other members of team and act as a team leader.

* Nurse as a Head nurse of a unit in hospital perform leadership role in providing quality care to all patients in that unit. She is responsible for over all management of unit.

* A Nursing supervisor is a leader for many unit in hospital, she is responsible for co ordination of work, supervision, decision making and providing quality care in all these units.

* Dean of Nursing Services, Principal in College of Nursing, and Nurse administrator are leaders of organization like Nursing colleges, Hospitals etc.
