The two forms of vertical structures in communication are "top-down" and "bottom-up". The "top-down" is the communication method where information and messages are conveyed from managers to their subordinates. Thus, it is a level of communication where the flow is from higher to lower level. This form of communication is essential to convey visions and missions of the company to the subordinates at lower level. It helps the subordinates to understand the expectations of higher level and work in accord to it.
In "bottom-up" form of communication, messages and information flow from lower level of subordinates to higher level of managers. This form of communication is mainly suggestions, complaints and grievances, or appeals. This gives information to managers about the real situations and help them to sort out the problem in an organization. Thus, both forms of communication is essential for the success of any company. It improves the coordination between the managers and the subordinates and ensures a smooth functioning in an organization.
The possible titles that a communicator as a leader could assume is "group leader" or "team leader" as the communicator facilitate, persuade and motivate the team members to move forward in an organization and accomplish the task or goals of the organization.
