Answer #1

Iron is necessary for many functions in the body including haemoglobin ,brain development and function, regulation of body temperature ,muscle activity and catacolamine metabolism.

Common iron prepartion include ferrous sulphate and ferrous gluconate .There are gastrointestinal side effcets of oral iron therapy may occur like nausea, epigastic pain and constipation. These discomforts can be reduced by taking iron supplements after meals .Iron can also be given intramuscularily or intravenous if the patient is not able to tolerate oral supplements and it is given in the form of iron sorbitol.Injection should not be given in conjunction with oral iron as this enhances toxic effects such as headache ,dizziness and so on.There is restriction to take milk, calcium and antiacids along with iron because it affects the absorption.Patient can take vitamin c along with iron intaks as it increases iron absorption in he body.
