Disability worker:

Disability support worker provides support, care and supervision for people with disabilities in residential homes, clinics, hospitals and im the home. They work along with the Doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals to achieve optimum wellbeing of the Disabled person. Their major duties are to support and assist the Disabled person' s activities of daily living, emotional support, physical assistance etc. Also they have to ensure that the client was informed and comfortable with the decision made on their behalf.  

Decision making: People with disabilities are also have their own wishes and needs. A Disability support worker are not meant to take decisions on behalf of Disabled person. Either the Disabled person will take the decision or the the guradian, or advocate , person who takes the decision on behalf of Disabled person can make the decision. The Disability support worker role is to ensure that the decision is comfortable and also informed to disabled person.  

Example 1: Ann is a Disability support worker who supports Metilda , 20 year old girl with walking impairment , due to cerebral palsy. Her guardian took an admission to the college that offering Bachelor  degree on commerce without asking her. When Ann assess the understanding of Metilda regarding this , she told she was not aware of this decision. As per Metilda's questions, Ann gave all the clarifications regarding the course , advantages and scope. But Metilda informed Ann that she likes to study a course on photography or film making , that she is very much interested. Ann made an opportunity for Metilda to talk with her guardian. So he can change his decision that behalf on Metilda.  

Example 2: Dona, is a Disability support worker of Ben, who is having a slight intellectual impairment or mild mental retardation, who expressed his willingness to join for skating class. Dona explained him regarding the safety issues , risk of falls and the compulsory use of skating shoes, helmets , elbow and knee pads etc. As Ben hates using helmets, he changed his decision in joining the skating class.
