If given a choice between plain water and salt water, normal rats will drink plain water, but adrenalectomized rats will drink salt water. Why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Adrenaline hormone involved in maintaining sodium concentration through sodium-potassium pump.

Adrenalectomized is the condition of removed adrenal gland.

It is obvious that adrenaline hormone is secreted by adrenal gland. So these adrenalectomized rats cannot have salt sodium in the system.

Inorder to make salt levels in the system, brain produces cravings for salt i.e sodium chloride.

It is the reason that adrenalectomized rats drinks salt water and normal rats not having cravings for sodium, so it drinks plain water.

A Tank contains 100g of salt and 500L of water. Water that contains (5/2)g of salt per liter enters the tank at a rate of 2 (L/min). The solution is mixed and drains from the tank at a rate of 3 (L/min). Let y be the number of g of salt in the tank after t minutes. a). What is the differential equation for this scenario? and b). what is the particular solution given y(0) = 100

When you drink cold water, your body must expend metabolic energy in order to maintain normal body temperature (37° C) by warming up the water in your stomach. Could drinking ice water, then, substitute for exercise as a way to "burn calories?" Suppose you expend 566 kilocalories during a brisk hour-long walk. How many liters of ice water (0° C) would you have to drink in order to use up 566 kilocalories of metabolic energy? For comparison, the stomach can...

. When you add salt (NaCI) to water it completely ionizes in the solvent. -If you continue to add salt to the solvent, the salt eventually stops ionizing in the solution. Conceptually explain why this happens. -If you increase the temperature of the solution a higher amount of salt ionizes in solution. Conceptually explain why this happens.
