Consider a cultural conflict that’s been presented in the news. What is the position of each side? Can this be resolved or negotiated in some way? If so, what are your recommendations for conflict resolution?
One of a major cultural conflict that has been presented often in the news is the Israel-Palestine conflict. Both Israel and Palestine have their position and perspective of the conflict. The Palestine side takes position by focusing on victimhood, by telling the story of their suffering and their being treated with injustice and punishments because of Europe's attitude towards Jews, they demand to be freed and allowed to have a separate nation of their own. On the other hand, Israel takes position by stressing on their long historic attachment to the land that Palestine posses. They rationalise the occupation ignoring UN partition treaty. Here there is a cultural conflict which has resulted in traumatic events towards Jews in Europe and constant mistreatment in many places which has lead to an uncomfortable life for them in the occupation of Jews. I think resolution of this conflict would need either a change in belief and attitude of people towards certain cultures such as Jews here, which would take a long period of time and education to people which still does not have a sure result. Another negotiation can be partition as suggested by the United Nations. But each side is not willing to negotiate hence the problem remains vulnerable.
