What reagent will distinguish between a soluble Cl- salt solution and a soluble NO3- salt solution?

KOH, AgNO3, BaCl2, NaCl, NH3 in water, Na2S, Na2SO4, H2SO4

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

Here we take chlorine salt as NaCl,

And NO3 salt as NaNO3,

AgNO3 is used as a reagent, because if AgNO3 is added to solution, NaCl forms white precipitate and NaNO3 will not show any visible change. So we can distinguish the above salt solutions with AgNO3.

I am having trouble creating a procedure to use to identify five unknown solutions we will be given in chem lab. The five solutions will be an acid, a base, a chloride salt, a nitrate salt, and a sodium salt. I have to come up with steps to determine which compound is in each category. Only one will be in each solution. Acid- HCl, HNO3, H2SO4 Base - NaOH, NH3, Na2S Chloride Salt - NaCl, BaCl2, CuCl Nitrate Salt -...

Concept: During the first week of this project, you need to synthesize several common kidney stones by precipitation reactions (Make sure that you save the kidney stones for week 2). You need to choose the reactants in a way that the kidney stone is the only product that precipitates out from the solution, while all other products remain soluble in water. This way the precipitate (kidney stone) can be separated from the rest of the solution by either filtration or...
