Hello!
In regards to GIT - how do ENS neurons communicate with G-cells to release gastin and chief cells to release pepsin(ogen)?
thanks
Enteric nervous system or intrensic nervous system is one of the main division of ANS and consists of a mesh like system of neurons that govern the function of the GIT.It is capable of acting independently of the symapthetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.Through parasympathetic nervous system vagus nerve innervates the G cells there will be release of neurotransmitter.Acetylcholine from neurons through enterogastric reflex, there is release of gastrin from the G cells. When the cholinergic activity from the vagus nerve innervates the chief cells, they release pepsinogen.
