Neurons are connected to each other by means of a synapse.
There are two types of synapse-
1. Electrical- They are rare and the neurons communicate by means of gap junction. Hence, there is direct transfer of ions and molecules. This type of synapses ae rare.
2. chemical- Here the neurons are placed close to each other. The communicate with each other through chemical mediators known as neurotransmitters which is released in the synapse by presynaptic neurons. This neurotransmitters binds on the specific receptors present on the surface of post synaptic receptors and this brings about the changes in the cell causing depolarisation and hyperpolarisarion and helps in communication of information.
