What effect does reduced saturation level have on the amount of oxygen available to systemic tissues?
Reduced oxygen saturation on hemoglobin reduces the oxygen supply to the systemic tissues. Oxygen unloading is higher when hemoglobin is fully saturated. As soon as he saturation of the Hb decreases due to O2 unloading at tissue site, the rate of O2 unloading gets reduced.
But when Hb is already less saturated then oxygen unloading at systemic tissue is much lower leading to tissue hypoxia and the cellular respiration and other cellular activities of that tissue is greatly hampered.
