what effect does increasing the oxygen flow rate have on the FiO2 delivered by an air-entrainment system? Explain.

Answer #1

Ans) Effect of increasing oxygen flow delivered by air entrainment system: High concentrations of oxygen over a period of time cause an overproduction of free radicals in the lungs.

- If unchecked, these radicals can severely damage or kill lung tissue. If left for a prolonged period of time the patient can suffer permanent lung damage.

- It's effect on FiO2:

• Increasing oxygen will increase FiO2.

• Prolonged high FIO2 in patients requiring mechanical ventilation worsens gas exchange, decreases ciliary efficacy, and produces hyperoxic bronchitis and atelectasis.
