What are the reasons that make women more at risk for UTI?
2)Describe the differences between the two general types of polycystic kidney disease

Homework Answers

Answer #1

UTI or Urinary tract infections generally affect the urinary tract and women are more susceptible to this infection. The general cause of the infection are the bacteria which are in large intestine , which find their way into the Urinary bladder through Urethra. The urethra is shorter for women and hence they are more prone to UTI. Hormonal changes which are more common in women can also facilitate them as easy targets for UTI. UTI are more common among pregnant women, as the expanding uterus puts more pressure on the bladder and it causes some urine to get stagnant at bladder, which becomes a favourable situation for the bacteria to grow.

2)Polycystic kidney disease is an inherited disease which is of two different types.

i) Autosomal Dominant Type: This is inherited by children if atleast one of the parents has the disease. The children have 50 percent chance of inheriting the disease. It is generally diagnosed after 30 years of age.

ii) Autosomal Recessive Type: This is inherited by children if both the parents have the abnormality. It is diagnosed shortly after birth
