Describe the differences between soluble and insoluble fiber. What are there dietary sources? Describe in detail can each of the two types of fiber affect human health.
Answer :- Soluble fiber will be soluble or insolvable in water.
Soluble - dissolve in water, forms a gel when wet, aids in slowing
down the rate at which food passes through the GI tract, found in
berries, fruits
Insoluble- is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables, and
whole grains. It adds bulk to the stool and appears to help food
pass more quickly through the stomach and intestines.
DIETARY SOURCE:- Fiber from natural sources Whole grain products fruits and vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds.
FIBER AFFECT HUMAN HEALTH :-
SOLUBLE FIBER:- intake of these fiber increased the amount of fat secreted in the stool. This happens because soluble fiber binds to bile acids that are secreted into the small intestine by the gallbladder to help break down fat. The fiber and bile acids then get flushed out of the system during a bowel movement. This ultimately results in less fat being absorbed into the body, as the bile acids are not present to break down the fat for absorption.Fiber can affect the absorption of helpful minerals, such as zinc, iron and magnesium, but it is not typically cause for concern if you are receiving enough minerals in your diet. Most fiber-rich foods are also high in mineral content.
INSOLUBLE FIBER:-
They have following property that affect the biological process that are dry texture, satisfies appetite, laxative effects , reduces cholesterol.
