What is the rationale for using 5-point Likert scale and the MSQ?

Answer #1

Both Likert scale and MSQ are essential for getting a better idea about someone's opinion or view about something.

But there is a minute different between them. Let us consider the review of a product as the subject here. MSQ helps us to know all the detailed review about all the possible needs and expectations of the user. Where as the likert scale helps us to know that intensity of the opinion in each of them.

For example, if the question is "Do you agree that the product is helpful to the customers?"

He will answer "Yes" or "No' for it. If it is yes, we don't know the intensity of his opinion. So Likert scale gives five options.

1. Strongly agree

2. Agree

3. Can't say

4. Disagree

5. Strongly disagree

This gives the intensity of the opinion which is very necessary to get to the actual review of the product.
