What are the different forms of Racial Micoaggressions?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The term racial microaggressions indicates a group of activities or behavior patterns that actually are manifestation of racial beliefs that a particular section of race or community holds. Many well educated and aware people profess equality for all races, but unconsciously act in a racist manner, particularly in new or ambiguous situations. It includes everyday slights, insults, indignities and denigration messages sent to black people by white (unconsciously), giving a way to social prejudice.

Racial microaggressions can be of variety of types, such as:

1. Microassaults : these are the conscious , intentional and deliberate discriminatory actions or behavior patterns: using racial epithets, display of white supremacy symbols or preventing inter-racial associations of any sort.

2.Microinsults: Verbal/non-verbal or both form of rude communication that shows insensitivity towards others (generally blacks) ethnic and racial heritage or identity.

3. Microinvalidations: communications that subtly conveys the feeling of being external to a community and questioning one's thoughts, feelings or experiential reality of the person from different race.

All these types are generally subtle, but are potentially more harmful to people of darker race as they may feel inferior, insulted and discriminated by such behaviors and expressions.
