Have you or a anyone you know faced barriers similar to those described in the glass ceiling?
I have had a personal experience with an incident of the aforementioned glass ceiling phenomena.
Back in my university days, one of my professors, despite knowing my potential and capability with the respect to the subject domain, seemed to give more attention as well as preference to one of my batch mates, who was - I admit - equal, if not better, at the given subject.
Despite that parity that we both adorned, there was a sense of inequality that prevailed in the mind of my professor. It always seemed as though the reason for the given disparity was the gender. Although, i always tries to rationalize and give my teacher the benefit of the doubt, until my peers, without me having mentioned anything, started noticing what i had been for a while.
My feeling had been validated. My mental and emotional advancement had been deliberately thwarted due to my gender. It was a truly self confidence battering experience.
