How do you think stereotypes are created ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Stereotypes are created as it is cognitively efficient. Once we categorized there is no longer any need to consider information about each individual member of the group. The information can be applied the entire group. We are cognitive misers and categorization saves processing time. This satisfies the need for understanding and predicting the social world. It is a way to feel better about one’s own self; as we think our group's ingroups are better than other groups outgroups.
