what sort of images do you think mythology creates for women? Do you think that some of the assumptions or stereotypes toward women might have evolved from mythology? What are the assumptions or stereotypes that you find interesting or problematic?
Mythology creates various sorts of images right from women with qualities of godess to demons. Mythology has potryed women to be very powerful and strong who could face all the harsh times and stand strong for her dreams or rights. Eg Draupadi who stood strong and took revenge of the treatment she got from kauravas, Artemis the Greek godess was also known for her strong decisions and stands.
But yes still there also existed women who always followed what were told to them blindly and gave up on their own wishes and desires just because they were always taught to do so ,as being a female. Some of them were kept as dasis or servants to the king's who had to fulfill all their wishes, stereotypes like women have to bow down to all the men's orders must have come from such females. Also women have to surrender herself for men also had it's origins from mythologies.
Mythologies have stated both women as godess and also as servants or whores which is quiet controversial and interesting to know. But certain stereotypes still continue which is myth and should be vanquished instaed of following it. Women who were strong and warriors must be followed and highlighted in mythological stories.
