Earlier it was not considered important to recognize differences among American subcultures, by the American marketers, these subcultures were assumed and expected to assimilate in the mainstream mainstream by the marketers. Hence,they took a homogeneous approach regarding American society.

Eventually over the time the American marketers have understood that instead of taking a homogeneous approach, they should focus on the heterogeneity of the culture. They should understand the diversity of the culture and should respect it for better marketing strategies. As these subcultures strive maintain their cultural integrity than to assimilate in the mainstream, American marketers have began to approach in a way that respect the differences of each subcultures ethnic and cultural identity, to be successful.
