Which president do you think has been the most influential on the direction of American politics(NOT society)? Justify your response with at least TWO specific examples of the president's actions and their ramifications for the shape of American politics.
In my opinion Abraham Lincoln changed the shape of American politics to a great extent by initiating the abolishment of slavery and civil war. While the abolishment of slavery was more social, the civil war was purely politics in which America became a country for real which also ensured that the country is out of fear of the blackmails of the politicians in the South. Secondly, he was one of the most important persons in making US politics a common man’s affairs. Although he hails from an ordinary background, he rose quickly to ranks and became the leader of the party. He was also one of the best orators the country has ever witnessed which gave him an advantage over others as he was able to move masses with his speeches and Gettysburg speech is one classic example.
