Although there is conflicting studies with respect to paternal age and risk posed to fetal development, it is debated that that accumulated m chromosomal aberrations and mutations occurring during the maturation of male germ cells are thought to be responsible for the increased risk of certain conditions with older fathers. The offspring of older fathers, particularly those aged above 40 years, have reduced fertility and an increased risk of birth defects, autism, schizophrenia and some cancers.
