6. There are two major events in fetal development. Block to polyspermy and the transition of the corpus luteum control to the placenta. Explain how if either of them failed what the repercussions would be. (Please answer in detail)
polyspermy is an event where an egg has been fertilized by many sperms instead of one, it is very important to block polyspermy as soon as a sperm binds with an egg because polyspermy can lead to inviable zygote or zygote with multiple chromosomes which is not feasible for normal fetal growth. similarly, corpus luteum (CL) control transition to the placenta is important. CL is important in maintaining pregnancy, it secretes progesterone and later on gets replaced by placenta which provides nutrition to fetus and support pregnancy by secreting progesterone, in absence of this transition, pregnancy will not continue.
