how do peers affect young children development?

Answer #1

Although it was earlier assumed that the impact of family relationships during children shadow that of peers, research now shows that peer relationships that are forged in in childhood are an equally compelling force in child development, not just from adolescence onwards. Specifically, interactions with peers are essential for current and future psychosocial adjustment of the child. Such relationships are experienced either through involvement in group related activities or one-on-one friendships. From these, children implicitly learn to develop new social skills and become acquainted with the various social norms that govern interpersonal relationships.
