Endocrine system plays an important role in reproductive
developement.
- It secretes the main hormones for the developement of
reproductive system.
- Lutenizing hormone (LH) and Follicle stimulating
hormone(FSH) are called gonadotropins as they regulate growth and
developemt of gonads, pubertal maturation and secretion of sex
steroids.
- Gonadotropic hormones are secreted from gonadotropins
of anterior pituitary that constitue 10-15% of cell population of
the gland.LH and FSH are glycoproteins.
- Both LH and FSH are produced by the same
gonadotropins. There are seperate genes that code the synthesis of
alpha and beta subunits of gonadotropins. The addition of
carbohydrate moiety to molecules allows variation in biological
activity of LH and FSH in different conditions.
