Tanya is four moths old which categorizes her within the oral stage of Freuds conceptualization of psychosexual stages of development. Due to the neglect of Tanyas nursing needs, and the prioritization of both the parents professional life, it will lead to frustration festering within Tanya. She cannot even feed through the mouth due to her given illness. Oral stage is wherein the sensory pleasures are derived through the active use of the mouth, which the child achieves by sucking on the mothers breasts for feeding purposes.

But with regards to Tanya that component is nullified, trapping her libido in this particular stage if she isn't able to sought through it and move on to the next stage. This fixation would lead to Tanya becoming and overtly suspicious and pessimistic individual. The fixation can also lead to various addictions being formed such as smoking, which involves the exercising of the same act as feeding from a mothers breasts during infancy.
