Is feminism relevant to psychology in general, and to the psychology of women in particular? Are there certain women that you imagine are better represented by feminism ?
Feminism is a pivotal movement that has capitalized its position in every sphere of life. It has especially and most definitely made an impact in the domain of psychology as well. Imposter syndrome is one such syndrome, which began to analyze the inkling of the beginning of a conundrum that would perorate into the coming years and redefine gender roles, from approximately the 70's. Imposter syndrome was initially studied to assess the feeling of being 'a fraud' amongst woman who are high achieving and successful. Although, it later transpired into both the genders, but it began from the women, as they felt 'out of it' due to their lack of participation in activities and roles that were earlier dominated by men.
Of course, there is also a rising subset within psychology called Feminist Psychology, wherein the genders and gender roles are analyzed in context of the social construct. It capitalizes on the problems that women encounter due to the issues arising due to the atrocities of an inherently patriarchal society.
Many women especially within the professional and social structures and the corporate as well as the show biz world are better represented due to this construct, and have garnered the deserved critical acclaim for their talents and respect for them as much as their counterparts do.
