Answer #1

Labeling theory describes how an individual’s self-concept and behavior may be influenced or determined by the terms that are used by others to describe them. This theory would relate the most to the phenomenon of ‘self fulling prophecy’, in which the outcome of a prediction made is likely to be realised, due to a positive relationship between belief and behaviour. Through the process of labelling, individuals are assigned terms and categories about themselves and their actions. Now, self fulfilling prophecy works through which such individuals may unconsciously direct their behaviours in accordance to those labels. This way, individuals can develop several traits much after these traits were recognised by others to exist.
