There are many strengths as well as shortcomings of labelling theory. Some of the shortcomings are :

- According to the theory , no act is basically criminal , the act is considered criminal , only if the society consider it to be .

- The theory covers all the criminal activities and covers all the people irrespective of their caste , religion ,sex or race.

- It depends on the audience witnessing the act to announce the act as criminal or not. If the audience is unaware of the act being considered criminal or not , the act is not labelled as criminal.
