There are three primary reasons that explain why people form
interest groups:
- Social: Affiliating with certain groups allows people the
opportunity to meet and be around others who have similar
views.
- Ideological: People who join interest groups are serious
advocates of the group's beliefs, ideas, and goals and want to help
the group materialize and achieve those aims.
- Material: People believe that membership in a particular
interest group will provide them with things that they want or will
benefit them in some way.
