How did Christian Humanism expand on ideas of Renaissance Humanism?
Humanism is based on ethics and the position of man in the world. It places humans as the most important of all beings. During Rennaissance, the thinkers and leaders like Petrarch, Desiderius Erasmus, and Friedrich Niethammer connected secularism with humanity and thus, gave birth to Humanism. Their ideas paved way for reformations due to a belief that the humans have a special relationship with God and are therefore entitled to social justice. It reformed the Catholic Church. Hence, the Christian humanism which was based on the moral teachings of Christ and the free will of man expanded the initial ideas of Renaissance Humanism which emphasized the importance of humanity and personal dignity. Christian humanists supported the establishment of human rights, liberty, conscience, and self-worth.
