Given that counselors should not impose their values on clients, how should Christian therapists deal with theological issues that arise in counseling?
Any counselor should not impose their values on clients. In case a Christian therapist wants to deal with theological issues with his patients, he should talk it out rather than imposing his views. The therapist should make efforts to understand the patient's point of view and should not, at any point of time, let the patient know that he himself believes otherwise. In case the patient's viewpoint makes sense, the therapist must try to agree with the patient and counsel him accordingly. In case the therapist feels the patient's viewpoint to be wrong, he should try to reason out with the patient in a polite manner without hurting any sentiments. In case the patient is adamant about his viewpoint, the therapist should find a way around and counsel him. In any case, the therapist should not impose his views on the patient.
