22. The Medici’s were a powerful Italian family whose members effectively ruled Florence for much of the 15th century and from 1569 were grand dukes of Tuscany. They made their money through banking.

23. The “Measure of all things” in the humanistic movement is Man.

24. In 1401, the Arte di Calimala (Cloth Importers Guild) announced a competition to design doors which would eventually be placed on the north side of the baptistry.
