The perception of color is initiated by the physical properties of light which are electromagnetic radiation with ranging wavelengths of 400 to 700nm. Color perception is generated by the activities of the brain and it is a fact that its experience is only known to the person's brain that experiences it. It is impossible to know if a person's "red" looks the same as another person's "red". It may look like the "blue'' of someone. In fact, a person's "red" may look nowhere around any of the other person's colors at all. Colors are just labels that are decided internally. Hence, it is quite possible that our brains may choose to label them differently from one another.
''White light'', that is the light from the sun, has a broad distribution of all the wavelengths of light. Having all the wavelengths, White light activates the three types of cone cells present in the human eye equally. So, anything returning light to the eye should project an achromatic sight ranging from white to black.
Newton's experiment suggested that it is a prismatic behavior that decomposes white light into different colors. But, it is still difficult to explain why the human eye can distinguish colors, just the way bats can actually hear colors. So, it is even more difficult to assure that a particular color is perceived the same by everyone. There lies a possibility that the labels that the brain generates for a particular color are verbally same but are actually different in perceiving.
